It’s all about beginnings
January 2007
Rev. Regina Maria Cross
There is always a first a first day, a first week, a first month, a first date, a first kiss, always a first.
Being petite, I was always first in line. That was a very good thing in grade school during fire drills, but not so good as the fat kid being picked or not for whatever sport the nuns would be refereeing at recess that day.
This is the first time I am introducing myself to my community of Centreville in this manner as me, Rev. Regina Maria Cross, through the writing of a new column to be printed the second Friday of each month in the Record Observer.
There is a phrase I often use when teaching at Light Paths, Centre For The Healing Arts, (or elsewhere around the country) to get a point across in that, whatever I am telling you, please find the truth of it for yourself and that phrase is “It´s Just A Thought.”
I thought it might be fun to look at the Number “One” as we are beginning anew having just arrived at our first month in our New Year. So many of us start the year on the first day with New Year´s Resolutions, a mighty and courageous stance. I admit I do, too, but I wait until the fourth of the first month quite on purpose. The ancient wisdom of Numerology is “The study and spiritual understanding of the vibrations of numbers, rhythms and cycles. A science of self-discovery that helps us comprehend the uniqueness of life” according to Rev. Carol Parrish-Harra´s in The New Dictionary Of Spiritual Thought. The Number One is about leadership, independence, will, initiating, power, striving. Is it any wonder we will to initiate the power of striving, to be better at who we are, on the very first day of the beginning of a fresh New Year?
Another ancient wisdom known as Astrology, “The study of the influence on humanity and planetary life of the vibratory radiation´s of the sun, moon and other celestial bodies in their various positions and relationships. The practice of astrology is considered both an art and a spiritual science,” again I quote Rev. Parrish-Harra.
The First House of the Twelve House Astrological Wheel is about the self, how others see us, our image, appearance, and our outer personality. As the Astrological Year begins March 21, the first Zodiac of this New Year is Aries. Aries is known as a personal sign and is often referred to as The Pioneer. Those born under this sign have a need to be independent, developing self-awareness. They are generally assertive, courageous, great initiators and leaders. Their motto, if you will (get it?) is “I am.” When an Aries take the initiative of a New Year´s Resolution on the first day of the New Year, you best believe they are actually apt to meet their goal.
So, as you continue to challenge yourself in this second (all about maintaining, balance, cooperation and diplomacy) week of the New Year with your life-affirming resolution, realize just how wise you are, as it is our natural inclination to follow Nature´s Way and Universal Law.
It´s Just A Thought…
