“Universality * Soulful Generosity

In Thought, Word And Deed”

 March 19, 2009

Rev. Regina Maria Cross

There seems to be a Universality of yearly renewal of Enthusiasm as the Beauty of Verde’ green becomes visible budding on the very tips of trees and appearing as fairy moss upon our lawns as we advance toward Spring Equinox. Common sense tells us a fourth of the year 2009 already lives inside our life’s history.

Before we move forward considering this months Agni Yoga Virtue putting pen to paper, were you surprised by your own inner wisdom shining through your thoughts, meditations and realizations relating to your newfound definition of Beauty? Here is just a little bit of what I discovered; “If Beauty is seen through the eyes of the beholder and I am the beholder my work then is to purify my sight to see clearly. Beauty is truth, simplicity and grace in thought, word and deed. Beauty is in all things. I heard, ‘Beauty is my name, Yahweh and in my name is contained all things.’” All things? All things, even what we conceive as unappealing, unpleasant and hideous? As Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder our work then is to birth Beauty from chaos. Surely the challenge is before us now in this juncture of economic hardship and societal fears. Beauty is in all things. The call is to go and make it so.

We now move into Chapter Three in The Book Of You and the Agni Yoga Virtue of Universality, remembering Agni Yoga to be the everyday practice of ethical living, devotion, and purification of the physical, emotional and mental anatomy of the authentic spiritual self.

Webster defines Universality as comprehensive, omnipresent (that’s interesting), all-inclusive, all embracing, international, catholic (yes, with a little “c” which existed long before the capital “C” Catholic). Rev. Carol Parrish in “The New Dictionary of Spiritual Thought” describes Universality this way; “The thread of sameness that flows through all aspects and experiences of life. A state of non-separativeness. Both a blessing and a challenge, for ultimately Universality – the wholeness – is the guiding consciousness of all life.”

That is to say, we all experience laughter in happiness, fright or flight in fear, tears in our grief, bliss in joy, and we all believe in peace. These are universal observations in “the thread of sameness”. Yet each of us may encounter these life moments differently from another. Herein lies the blessing, the Beauty, as we empathize with each other in the all-inclusiveness, the wholeness, of one heart, one soul, non-seperativeness relating to another and the challenge realizing each of us is separate in our practical knowledge guiding the consciousness of life individually as well as in group awareness.

As we live through the trials of present day conditions, the ability of communication through technology brings us closer to the understanding of Universality with the world of our fellow brothers and sisters available at the simple click of a button. Daily as we turn on the evening news we encounter life’s true narratives more dreadful than our own giving way to the compassionate thought, “There but for the grace of God, go I”. Again, we face the difficult task to remember the blessing in times such as these. Times in which in our most recent history there has been obviously visible a lack of comprehension regarding Universality as the exclusivity of greed prevails. If we had thus far evolved to the appreciation of inclusively in the virtue of Universality we would not be living 2009 as we are. That then is the work we, humanity, have cut out for ourselves on the path of enlightenment, the absolute absorption through wisdom that what one thinks, speaks and acts upon does affect the guiding consciousness and the lives of each and all universally. To what extent am I my brothers, my sisters’ keeper? Where then is my responsibility to nature and Mother Earth in recycling for the good of all concerned? How then do I connect lovingly to the animal kingdom without humanizing them, as they are lifelines in vital lessons of our own animal instincts? What a “Wonderful World It Would Be” if we realized the Universality of all as a whole while still respecting the endearing differences interfacing and accompanying our sameness.

This month’s lesson in Seed Thought or Active Meditation as we contemplate the Agni Yoga Virtue of Universality brings us to the understanding of the technique whereas the mind is focused upon a word, a thought or phrase poised and alert to streams of Higher Consciousness giving a new and deeper perception to said word, thought or phrase. Gift yourself, therefore your family, friends and all of humanity, a few minutes daily to sit quietly. Imagine a light 6 – 10 inches above your head. Allow this light to radiate out over you. Bring the light down into your heart thinking quietly to yourself, “I care, I care, I care.” Breathe into your continued relaxation. Feel the light filling your body as well as all that surrounds you. Totally relaxed now, repeat the wordUniversality three times. In receptive quietude listen as you are given droplets, perceptive impressions relating to Universality. Relaxing further into the comfort of the All Knowing go into the silence for a length of time cultivating that which comes. As thoughts appear regarding Universality jot them down on a piece of paper without regard to logic or rational. Write down in your journal, The Book Of You, any and all that is delivered in the moment as a gift from the Divine. As you give over your meditation timing to the world that exists only here and now, look over the conversation your heart, mind and soul took part in with the Sacred. You have watered the seed of one word making of it your own expression, definition into language. Begin again tomorrow and the days following as you put into practice Enthusiasm, Beauty and Universality as the first three of twelve Agni Yoga Virtues you have studied thus far enriching the study of The Book Of You.

As it is Just A Thought, perhaps we experience Universality when our conscious actions with respect to the whole are a righteous action, actions of soulful generosity in thought, word, and deed. This month, be at peace as you explore the Agni Yoga Virtue ofUniversality and the Divine intelligence that springs forth from your spirit into Chapter Three of The Book Of You.
